Too much not only looks’ over the top’ but, in a worst case scenario, can make you look as if old age is catching up on you fast. Even worse if you apply too much it could get into the eyes and cause irritation.

However, for instant glamour this is the way to go.

Glitter eye shadow comes in many colours and is very much  in vogue at the moment, especially for the party season.

Here are our tips for applying loose glitter and shimmer eye shadow to achieve that beautiful look to your most notable feature, “the eyes are the window to your soul”

To be able to create the perfect look you will need the right tools.

1. A really well lit mirror
2. A cream or gel based eyeshadow (for the loose glitter  to stick to)
   
3. A small clean eyeshadow brush
4. A pot of loose glitter or shimmer eye shadow

How to Apply the Glitter or Shimmer

You will need a base for your loose glitter to adhere to so apply the base eye shadow all over the lids. Next choose gold glitter  for a warm look or silver for cool. Make sure the colour matches your eyes and skin tone. However there are many shades to choose from so you could match your outfit if you like.

• Take the small clean eyebrow brush and lightly load with the glitter or shimmer then gently blow on the brush to remove any surplus powder.
• Apply the glitter just to both eyebrow arches to highlight the natural shape and curve of your eyebrows.
• Load up the small brush again and blow off any surplus shimmer. Gently apply the shimmer to the inside corner of each eye, a gentle tap on the brush should be sufficient. Too much and the glitter or shimmer will find its way into the creases around the eyes where it will cake and make you look older.
• If you prefer you can apply the glitter to the whole eyelid by gently patting it on with the brush. Do not try to blend or the glitter will fall off.
  

Using glitter and shimmer with care is a great way to enhance and beautify your eyes so try not to be tempted to rush it. Applied incorrectly can result in disaster.

All makeup brushes should be kept spotlessly clean to prevent bacteria from causing possible outbreaks of spots, rashes or allergies, especially around the sensitive eye area.

Once or twice a month just rinse your brushes in a solution of warm water and a mild shampoo, making sure you rinse the residue off thoroughly. Then lie them flat to dry.

Store them with the brush head pointing up  in a clean dry container such as a jar. If you need to reapply your eye makeup during the day use a folding makeup bag.

Eyeshadow Brushes

• Eyeshadow blending is important if you want to achieve that flawless finish. You must always use a brush. If you use your fingers or a cotton bud you will not get a smooth finish. Choose a flat short haired brush, especially designed for the job.

Eyeliner Brushes

• Use a  small tapered very fine brush with a very steady hand.

Eyebrow Brush

To give your eyebrows a groomed look you should use a firm angled brush head which will leave your brows tidy.

Tweezers

• Choose the very best Tweezers you can afford, either pointed or flat ended whichever you prefer. Tweezerman is probably the best known brand and is worth buying as you know the quality is excellent. For real precision try the Tweezerman Slant Tweezer

Eyelash Curlers

• If you like to curl your lashes before you apply mascara, again use the best curlers you can afford. Cheaper ones could damage your lashes and even pull them out as the lashes can fall out if they get caught on the curlers.
  

A quick tip though, either go bold on eyes or lids, definitely not both, unless you’re on the catwalk or on stage.

For sensational evening eyes that will have you standing out in the crowd, brush a bright blue eye shadow over your lids to your eye socket. Several coats of moisturised black mascara
will add real definition.

For everyday try lining your upper and lower lashes with a stand out color. This will still give you that must have look only in a more subtle way.Try a multi hued effect in a never-before-seen formula.

For even more subtlety whilst still keeping the faith, icy blue eyeliner on your lower lid will make your eyes sparkle.

Lets not forget lashes, which will look great with colored mascara.

Useful tips:

• Blend well to avoid harsh lines using special makeup brushes
  

• Prevent mascara ruining your makeup by protecting upper lids with a credit card or similar.

Follow the steps below and you will be the wow of the party.

Apply a light coat of light-reflecting foundation cream on your face and eyelids.
I personally always use mineral makeup . I have used it for years and will never use anything else. But it is a personal choice.

Using a small eyeshadow brush, apply blue shadow across the upper eyelid to the crease.

Withe a slightly larger brush apply glitter eyeshadow in the crease almost up to the eyebrow.

Just under the brow arch blend a light reflecting highlighter.

Apply a dark blue eyeliner pencil or shadow around the rim of the eye, top and bottom,taking care to use small strokes which will give a softer appearance.

Finally add several coats of black mascara to give drama.
