When we talk about someone having charisma what we mean is that he or she stands out from the crowd for one or more favorable reasons.
They grab our attention through the force of their personality, whether it is as a result of their looks or physique, their intelligence, their leadership qualities or their command of speech.
Most importantly, whatever they excel in, they do all have one thing in common and that is the animation, the awareness, the glow, the warmth or enthusiasm that is reflected in their eyes.
Think about it, what attracts you to your best friend, your lover, your favorite actor or people you feel you can trust in business?
How often have you heard the opinion that someone was smiling but not with their eyes, or he just doesn’t come over as sincere?
Good looks, a beautiful body, great wealth, good conversation or even an outrageous dress sense do not a charismatic personality make if their eyes do not mirror that essential warmth, or humor, or enthusiasm that attracts people to them.
Conversely, and unfortunately, many of history’s greatest monsters have also had startling eyes that glow with fanaticism when animated.
- Hitler whose powers of oratory were tremendous. Look at old film footage when he addresses the Nuremberg rally for example, the magnetism emanating from his features and particularly his eyes helps to understand how willing his people to be led to disaster and infamy.
- Stalin with his glowering dark eyes is another twentieth century arch monster whose crimes are too terrible to contemplate.
There is no cosmetic, no surgery, in fact absolutely no artificial treatment available that will change the aura that an individuals eyes give to the outside world.
Sure you can add eye drops to give a temporary sparkle, or contact lens to change the color of the iris. Cleverly applied eye make up can emphasize a mood or create an impression but at the end of the day it is up to the individual to genuinely express the feelings and emotions that are relevant to the company and environment they are in.
Great actors, successful orators, top politicians and the best salespeople are amongst those prominent personalities that have either trained themselves to use their eye contact to enhance their appeal or to whom it has come naturally.
You too can train yourself to have charisma but it must be in circumstances that you believe in and have trust in your feelings and abilities.
It doesn’t matter whether you are the best looker or the ugliest or the fattest on the block you can still command attention and be respected for your personality if you allow your eyes to reflect your sincerity and enthusiasm.
